High Water
The tide in Venice is measured and forecasted on the city's historical zero. The vignettes indicate a tide level that can affect the walkable ground of three reference areas.
For example: for Piazza San Marco, one of the lowest points in the city, to begin to flood, a tide higher than 80 cm is needed. For Rialto, in front of the public transport docks, a level of 105 cm is needed, while in front of the train station, a very high point in the city, 135 cm are needed.
Today, however, thanks to MOSE, a system of mobile barriers, the difference in tide level between the lagoon and the sea is maintained, thus preventing the entry of water into a large part of the city's territory. Boots may therefore be needed only in the lowest areas, which will still be easily walkable. .
